“We have worked hard, we have a young talented team that is developing and who desperately wants to transform the potential into results, but that’s the right time for a change.”
Wales, which ended at the bottom of the Six Nations last year with five defeats, is on the right track for another embarrassing whitening after a defeat of 22-15 in Italy this weekend.

– Rankings collapse –
The proud rugby nation fell to a new 12th hollow in the world ranking, below Georgia.
Gatland succeeded compatriot Wayne Pivac, returning to a job in which he had had a success marked during his first fate, from 2007 to 2019.
This gave four titles of six nations – including three Grand Chelem – and two appearances in the semi -finals of the World Cup.
Wales briefly occupied first place in the world ranking in 2019.
The Gatland team recorded only one victory in the six nations of 2023, but the former coach of the British and Irish Lions led them in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in France later this year- There, including 40-6 destruction of Australia.
Wales has not won a test match since he beat Georgia in the pool stages of this tournament, with a defeat against Argentina in the quarter -finals marking the start of their miserable race.
In total, Gatland won only six tests out of 26 in charge during his second fate as a coach of Wales.
He had to work in the context of a threatened strike by players in the first months, linked to a deep financial crisis in the Welsh match.
He also had to face the pensions of a multitude of experienced players, including Alun Wyn Jones, Justin Tipuric, Rhys Webb, Dan Biggar, Josh Navidi, Leigh Halfpenny and George North.
Tierney said the WRU aimed to have a permanent appointment in place before the two test tour in Japan later this year “with all the open options”.
The former coach of Australia Michael Cheika, Franco Smith from Glasgow and the acting boss of Ireland, Simon Easterby, would be in the context.
Sherratt said he “could not refuse” the possibility of causing Wales, although he added that he would not present his name for the full -time role.
The Englishman, speaking at the Wales training base, said that he would encourage his players to be “courageous”.
