Ben Duckett was accused of “hiding your failures behind humor” by Indian legend Ravichandran Ashwin, after the Opener of England went through a fear of injuries to be confirmed for the Champions Trophy.
Ashwin, one of the greatest spinners in the history of the game, withdrew to play in December after having taken 537 counters in his test career. He was also a member of the Indian team to reach the ODI 2023 World Cup final.
During the defeat of England in international series of a day in India, Duckett said that “If we lose 3-0 against India, I don’t care as much as we beat them in the Trophy final Champions ”.
Ashwin played against Duckett in the victory of the 4-1 test series in India over England at the beginning of last year, taking 26 counters. Duckett drew attention to the series for saying that the star of India Yashasvi Jaiswal had been inspired by the style of Bazball of England, declaring that “when you see opposition players playing like that, It almost has the impression that we should take a certain credit that they play differently differently that how others play cricket test ”.
Ashwin made fun of Duckett’s latest comments during a punishment in India. “Ben Duckett also said similar things in the past, saying that Yashasvi Jaiswal learned to play aggressive cricket in the style of Bazball of England,” he said.
“I know that Ben Duckett and his penchant for humor … But it was not a joke and it’s as if you are hiding your failures behind humor. Your ODI 2023 World Cup [was] Quite bad too. It is not as if they were in bad shape over 2-3 months. This has been the case for four years now.
“Despite such a talented group, they are unable to justify their potential.”
In Test Cricket, Ashwin tormented Duckett in the field. The left -hander was dismissed seven times by Ashwin during tests, marking only 79 points in the process.
After having undergone a problem with the left side of his groin during the final ODI, Duckett was fit to play in the Champions Trophy. He is ready to open with Phil Salt, leaving Tom Banton – who played his first match for England in three years in the final ODI – as a spare drummer in the team.
The campaign of the England Champions Trophy begins against Australia in Lahore next Saturday. They later play in Afghanistan and South Africa and should win two of their three group games to progress in the semi-finals. The tournament begins Wednesday, when Pakistan hosts meet New Zealand in Karachi.
