Of all Chelsea players, you could forgive Cole Palmer to look a little upset.

Five months ago at Stamford Bridge, he used Brighton players almost as accessories in an individual program, scoring the four goals in a 4-2 home victory. The only suspicion of annoyance (and justified it) was that it was not six.

And yet, there was the same team of Seagulls, condemning Chelsea to consecutive defeats in the space of six days in two competitions and two lamentable performances, more or less closing Palmer of the two games. Over 180 minutes, the influence of the playmaker was negligible, even with Bart Verbruggen usefully throwing one of his crosses in his own net.

Unlike the freezing front which is the trademark of Palmer’s positive behavior, the 22 -year -old is not a player who hides his frustrations well. The arms go up, someone gets an ear and full -time at the Amex stadium, he was one of the many players who had to be exhorted by dragging the staff to recognize what was left of itinerant support, many having left once Yankuba MINTEH put it on a 3-0 victory.

A night when Enzo Maresca accused his players of lacking desire, the spectacle of external emotion of Palmer may not be a bad thing.

“It’s a bit like fans,” said Maresca. “When you don’t win the game, it’s normal that they are not happy.”

In a revealing way, however, there has been a warning to all Chelsea teenagers that adolescent problems will do no property to them.

“We need everyone at the moment, to be more positive,” added Maresca. “It’s a time when we have to stay together and try to finish the best way.”

Positivity is not an easy thing to find at the moment, with Chelsea to the sixth, on a series of three victories in 11 and by shortening the attack options every week that passes.

Patience was called by the manager but would seem to be down: two months after the utopian embrace which followed a 5-1 break from Southampton, the songs of “We Want Our Chelsea Back” dominated the second half Amex.

The rhythm of all is well, with all sadness and misfortune has been sudden and alarming, but if you are on the alarmism market, then even more of Jamie Carragher, the former defender of Liverpool speaking as an expert on Sky Sports.

“The idea that this project will take two or three years – the problem is that the team’s best players are no longer waiting for,” said Carragher.

“Cole Palmer is one of the best players in the Premier League. It is good enough to participate in the greatest honors of the Premier League and the Champions League.

Speaking after Brighton's match, Carragher said: Speaking after Brighton's match, Carragher said:

“He scored in a final of the European championship. This is something that Chelsea should keep in their minds.

“He will not expect this idea that, in a few years, we will arrive in the Champions League.”

Now the obvious response is that he does not really have a choice. Last summer, only 12 months after joining the club, Palmer signed a two -year extension to what was initially a seven -year agreement, which means that it is under contract until 2033.

In other words, Palmer could finish this season, playing four others and still from this point, there are as many years on his contract as Bukayo Saka signed when “committing his long -term future in Arsenal” in 2023 .

He could play another six, until 2031, before the time of the end of his agreement, he even became a major factor in negotiations. Until then, he would be 29 years old.

What should be, assuming fitness, to buy Palmer out of his Chelsea contract immediately? No one got closer to the world record 200 million pounds sterling paid by Paris Saint-Germain for Neymar since it was set eight years ago, but it is surely the stadium in which you would be.

This would make Palmer Prohibitique to almost all clubs in England or Europe, hence the trend among the players of this caliber towards contract management, as with Kylian Mbappe and his move to Real Madrid.

However, however, Carragher’s warning alluded to something wider insofar as this patient project creation approach always has its urgent needs. Move too slowly and who knows what state the first bricks filed will be in place when the last slots.
