The 800-meter Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson was forced to abandon a world record attempt this weekend after the British star of the intermediate distance withdrew from his own event, Keely Klassic, with an injury to Ischio-leg.

Hodgkinson felt pain on Wednesday after his last training session before the race event and a scan revealed a problem that took her out of the inner event on Saturday in Birmingham, in the center of England.

She was aimed at breaking the 800m world female record in Jolanda Ceplak, which has been located for 23 years – more than the 22 -year -old Hodgkinson is alive.

The uncertainty now surrounds the moment of Hodgkinson’s return to the track, although it always hopes to be in good shape for the indoor world championships in the Chinese city of Nanjing in March.

This weekend race would have been the first competitive event in Hodgkinson since it won gold at the Paris Olympic Games from last year.

“I will not lie when I had the news this afternoon, I shed a tear,” said Hodgkinson in an article on social networks published Thursday.

“I worked so hard for this moment and I was in the best form of my life. I am absolutely emptied that I will not be able to run for fans, especially after many bought tickets to see me try and beat The world record.

Hodgkinson, however, still plans to be present in Birmingham to support other athletes.

“This event has never been about me – it was always a question of presenting British talents, creating something new for sport and bringing more energy and entertainment to athletics”, she added. “This is something that I got involved in the long term.

“I will be in Birmingham on Saturday to do everything I can to make sure it is an incredible night for athletes and fans.”
