Gary Neville warned Liverpool that they “can get caught” against Aston Villa and Manchester City before a “big week” in the title race of the Premier League.
Liverpool responded to Arsenal’s 2-0 victory against Leicester by defeating Wolves 2-1 Sunday thanks to the first half goals of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.
The result restored the advance with seven points from Arne Slot at the top of the table, but they are faced with two difficult lights this week.
The first is a trip to Villa Park on Wednesday evening, followed by a visit to the Etihad stadium to face the defending champions of England.
After looking at the Reds to concede a last -minute equalizer in the Merseyside derby in Everton, then “just exceed the line” at home against wolves, Neville thinks that Arsenal can take encouragement.
“I think it was a good day for Liverpool,” he said on Gary Neville’s podcast. “I even think that it was half a day for Arsenal, with Liverpool, who has just exceeded the line against a team of Wolves that I thought fantastic, having Aston Villa Away and Man City Away.
“Sometimes you get a game like this when you go for a title at home, when people think you are going to introduce yourself and easily win. You are 2-0 four, but it turns out to be an after- Difficult noon.
“We all had these types of games and that is why it is a good result for Liverpool.”
While Neville thinks that Liverpool could lower the points this week, he also warned that the pressure will be back on Arsenal if the leaders of the league emerge with their advance of seven intact points.
“This next week is big. The two Liverpool games faced Aston Villa and Man City,” he added. “Villa is not in good shape, but Villa Park is a land where you can get caught.
“Man City is another place where you can absolutely get caught. They have players who can score 100% two or three goals against you.
“If Liverpool can get four points from the next two games, they will be in very good position to win the League because Arsenal will also drop points.
“If they can spend this week, the pressure turns to Arsenal because they have matches against Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Chelsea.
“There is a good chance that they can abandon the points in this round. If the gap can remain at seven points during this difficult period, it will be a matter of peer.”
