Ludvig Aberg claims the second PGA Tour title to Genesis Invitational

Ludvig Aberg in Sweden produced a brilliant finish to win his second PGA Tour title in the Genesis Invitational.

Aberg has turned four of the last six holes to Torrey Pines to finish a last round of 66 and finish 12 under the peer, a shot in front of the American Maverick McNealy.

McNealy had set the goal of the clubhouse following a fence of 64 but had finally paid the price to cover the last five holes in one.

The 29 -year -old had to be 38 feet to save the peer on the first, but observed the five holes in a row and picked up the ninth to reach the Tour in 30.

Other birdies the 10, 11th and 13th gave McNealy briefly a three -stroke lead before dropping his only day shot on the 14th after failing to get up and descend from a Greenside bunker.

Aberg, who had covered the first nine in 34, still needed a solid finish to force himself to contain and duly sneak the 13, 14th and 15th before two blows of 70 feet for Birdie the 18th by-Five.

“It was great,” Aberg told CBS. “It was a big fight.

“Obviously, the golf course is difficult, but I felt like I was controlling the ball flight all day and really proud of the way I finished, it was really cool.

“THE [par] Putt out of 12 was big because I think that at that time, the head was 12 [under] And it was a putt to stay at eight years old. I did it, which was good, then a few birdies and it was so fun to get the last holes down while trying to win a tournament.

“It’s really a special feeling.”

McNealy, who had started the shots of day five of Patrick Rodgers’ head, said: “It’s more than what I could have asked to start the day.

“It was one of those things where I put myself on a role early and there were getable flags. When you get on a roller, you just don’t want to get out of it and I tried to continue as long as possible.

“I had a few poor shots and a unlucky break or two at the end, but there were certainly a few things that happened early in this turn and it was just a ton of pleasure to be up there, for have a chance. Ludvig played great.

The world number one, Scottie Scheffler briefly held a share of the head when he covered the first nine in 31, but crucial the 11th and finally signed for a 66 to finish in third row with Rodgers on Nine Under.

England Tommy Fleetwood was part of an equality of four for the fifth out of eight under a fence of 68, with Rory McILroy five blows further after a frustrating 72.
