The PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, said that the discussions of reunification with the Saudi donors of Liv Golf are progressing and that he is comfortable, despite delays, that a good deal will be to come.

Explaining in Torrey Pines at Genesis Invitational, Monahan said that the tour leaders and the public investment fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) are both delighted to conclude an investment agreement.

“I don’t think you are never close until you are finalized,” said Monahan. “I would say this: everything goes ahead with the rhythm. When you look at all the parts involved, there is a general enthusiasm to do it.”

The original framework for a PGA-Pif agreement was unveiled in June 2023 and the first deadline to conclude an agreement was 14 months ago, but that did not attenuate the confidence of Monahan.

“What is important with regard to time is to do things well,” he said. “Something could have happened earlier, but it might not have been well. I feel much stronger and much more confident than in the end, we get things.”

This, said Monahan, will mean delivering a single tour with all the best golf players that materialize, a situation found only in major tournaments due to the PGA-Liv split.

“What it means is the reunification of the game, what we have been and we are focused,” said Monahan. “Fans want reunification.

“We have operated in a world where there is more than one and the PGA Tour has performed very well. But in the long term, is that the best thing for fans? Is this the best thing for the game? We try to resolve it so that everyone can take advantage of. “”

Adam Scott, a member of the board of directors of Monahan and the PGA, met President Donald Trump last week and other meetings of this type concerning the split of PGA-Liv could be underway.

“There are not yet any plans, but I suspect that there will be a future meeting,” said Monahan.

Monahan said the talks with Trump brought together the chances of an agreement.

“I think that the meeting ultimately brings us closer to an agreement concluded, but there is much more work to do,” said Monahan.

“He knows the PGA Tour very well, he knows the team of the public investment fund very well. Like us, he has a very clear image of what should happen and he wants to help. The game means so much for him. And It is the last Dealmaker, so having it in the mixture is a great thing for the game.

“For him, respond to our request to sit down and talk about how we realize what he publicly declared as a goal, which is the golf game that works under a single tour with all the best players, was an excellent opportunity. “
