The new Liv Golf leader, Scott O’Neil, said on Wednesday that the public investment fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) was “likely” to conclude an agreement with the PGA Tour that would send sport “on the moon” and return “.
Discussions between PIF, which owns Liv Golf, and the PGA Tour have been underway since a “framework agreement” was unveiled in June 2023.
But they exceeded a deadline for last December and have continued with little progress since, leaving the best talents divided between the two circuits rather than under a single banner.
There have been concerns about a Saudi investment in an American company by the Ministry of Justice.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan met US President Donald Trump last week to try to conclude an agreement.
“They (pif) are likely to invest in PGA Tour Enterprises, a new structure in which a collection of American investors has invested,” O’Neili in Adélaide told the second Liv Golf event of the season .
“For us at Liv, we hope to unlock the opportunity.
“This can unlock opportunities with the markets, with courses, with marketing partners, with television networks, with the growth of the game, with competition opportunities, with new formats.”
O’Neil, who succeeded Greg Norman last month, insisted that the interest in golf liv had never been stronger, with a series of broadcast transactions signed in recent weeks, a long heel ‘Achille for the breakdown circuit.
